EXAMPLES AND STORIES OF OBJECTS

4. EXAMPLES AND STORIES OF OBJECTS

You can find all kinds of objects, from letters and photographs (personal mementos) to clothes or unusual items (e.g., an axe used to destroy an ex-partner’s furniture, symbolizing anger and liberation).

Each object is accompanied by a brief description written by the donor.

These narratives tell universal stories of love, loss, betrayal, reconciliation, and hope.

CONCRETE EXAMPLES:

  • A MAGNIFYING GLASS: (Manila, Philippines) She gave it to me as a remembrance before I left. I never did get why she gave a magnifying glass nor did she ever explain what it meant. But she always said she felt “small” whenever she was around me.

  • OUR PUPPETS: (Cantabria, Spain) These handmade puppets were a gift from my ex-girlfriend for my birthday. They represent us: I have colored pencils and a CD on mine, symbolizing my work as an art director and musician, while she has a sewing machine, reflecting her profession as a tailor. Both puppets share a star tattoo on their arms, just like us. The gift also included two tickets for a Block Party concert that we never attended.
